Pō and the 4Fathers
Hawaii’s New Kanaka Maoli Sound
Pō & the 4Fathers offer cultural experiences as well as concerts. They are navigators, educators, instrument builders, and cultural experts in Hawaiian culture. Most recently Pō & the 4Fathers worked with composer Hans Zimmer and James Everingham to research, write and record the traditional Hawaiian instrumentation for the Score of Jason Mamoaʻs epic Apple series, “Chief of War”. Our team was able to help take traditional Hawaiian instruments and instrumentation and put it into a Hans Zimmer cinematic score, something that has never been done.
Pō & the 4Fathers is a unique musical experience that delivers a lyrical message that is powerful and clear with a modern Kanaka Maoli perspective. The band is deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture, Polynesian rhythms, and indigenous sounds, as well as the music that has moved generations like reggae, soul, blues, funk, and hip hop. They write songs of joy, hardship, pain and triumph, learned from shared experiences from the time of Pō to the present, and into the future.
Through their connection with the Mana Maoli Collective the stars above Aotearoa aligned and a convergence of indigenous Hawaiian music like no other sprung up at the Pasifika Vibes Festival. Over a kanoa of ‘awa a musical bond was established. Many influences merged into a new sound, songs were shared and written, and a deep brotherhood was formed. Pō & the 4Fathers emerged creating a new style, sound, and impactful message that represents the forward movement of Maoli music.
Pō & the 4Fathers are Kawai Hoe (ukulele, guitar, vocals), Roman Corpuz (lead guitar, vocals), Kalei Young (bass, drums, vocals), Kiliona Young (guitar, vocals), August Lopaka Colon (percussion), Kalei Yamanoha (steel, guitar, accordion, trombone), Jordan Lopez (keyboard, trumpet) and Adam Zopel (Bass). All members are multi-instrumentalists and accomplished vocalists, a perfect storm of Maoli music…this is Pō & the 4Fathers!!!
