Mulligans On The Blue
Mulligans on the Blue is excited to welcome Tavana back to the Mulligans Music Box on Wednesday, June 12th as part of the Aloha Music Series. Tavana is a multi-instrumentalist, one-man-wrecking-crew who uses his feet to lay down a variety of grooves while simultaneously playing guitar, banjo, dobro, lap steel, or ukulele and sings soulful, island-inspired Rock and Blues. Tavana is also a multi Nā Hōkū Hanohano nominee in several genres. Tavana has toured with, and recorded with Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam). In 2009, Eddie Vedder invited Tavana to sing ‘Hawaii 78’ – a Hawaii anthem of sorts – with him at the Hawaii Theatre. From a recording of their performance together, Vedder produced a limited vinyl record that was sent out to 10,000 Pearl Jam fans. Vedder also took Tavana on tour for several dates as his opening act for his solo album. Tavana has been the supporting act for Willie Nelson, Alabama Shakes, Shakey Graves, Xavier Rudd, Jenny Lewis, Julian Marley, Donovan Frankenreiter, and Nickleback to name just a few.

Mulligans On The Blue is excited to welcome back Brazilian artist Marauak to the Mulligans Music Box for a Hana Hou performance for his Bob Marley Tribute Show. His last performance was a blast and featured international touring artist Mishka. For the last 12 years, Marauak lived in San Diego where his album “Natural” was nominated as the best world music album of 2023 by SDMA, he specializes in Brazilian and reggae music.

Maile-Style Ti Leaf Lei Workshop

Bring the gentleman in your life and/ or make a lei to gift on Father’s Day! Students will learn the hili method of lei-making, which is braiding or weaving of a single plant material– in this case ti leaf. Class participants will learn ti leaf preparation, the traditional Hawaiian style of lei hili and the integral skill of placement of leaves and flowers between twists to secure them in the lei. Students will complete the workshop as they design and weave their lei, including the essential skill of tying it off. Class participants will leave the class with a beautiful, handmade Maile-Style Ti Leaf Lei for gifting on Father’s Day.

Of all our national holidays, Juneteenth National Independence Day commemorates not just the ending of legal slavery in the United States, but the ending of legalized ideologies of supremacy and racial separation. Juneteenth uplifts the ideals of true and total freedom and justice for all. It’s one of the few, perhaps the only holidays globally, that commemorates legal practices of human rights, dismantling legal inequity and civil unrest. In a world of that commemorates conquerors, political figures, war, and martyrs, this holiday is a significant treasure to celebrate for the progress of humanity.
