Barry Sless & Stephen Inglis – Pedal Steel + Slack Key Guitar
ProArts Playhouse

Barry Sless and Stephen Inglis – Pedal Steel and Slack Key Guitar

PC: ProArts Playhouse

AG Presents and ProArts Playhouse are proud to present Barry Sless & Stephen Inglis on Sunday, January 11th. After a mutual friend set them up with what was meant to be a one-off duet performance in January 2024, their chemistry was immediate and undeniable. It was clear from the start that Barry Sless and Stephen Inglis had found the right ingredients for a special musical dish. Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar and the Pedal Steel share many deep roots, but are seldom if ever, heard together. Their maiden voyage included traditional Hawaiian songs, Inglis originals, favorites from the Grateful Dead and Dylan songbooks played with a Hawaiian style, and much more. Both Barry and Stephen, along with everyone in attendance, agreed that the music felt effortless, captivating, vibrant, and full. It was clear that this would be the first of many shows to come.

Since that maiden voyage, the pair has toured California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, and Hawaii, and has continued to expand their repertoire. Barry has been making frequent trips to the Hawaiian islands over the past few decades as a member of The David Nelson Band and other acts, which has kindled his love of Hawaiian music. He was a frequent member of Phil Lesh’s touring bands from the early 2000’s and currently tours as a member of Bobby Weir and Wolf Bros, Moonalice, and continues in the 31st year of David Nelson Band.

SUPPORT LAHAINA!

Mo’o and Koholā by Lori Abreu

Mo`o and Koholā: A Childrenʻs Book full of Aloha and Purpose!

Lori Abreu, born and raised on Maui, is passionate about serving the children and families of her island home. It was the outpouring of aloha and compassion she witnessed working alongside volunteers in our Maui community in the wake of the devastating wildfires that motivated her to realize her long-time dream of publishing her first children’s book, Mo`o and Koholā, which was introduced to our Maui community in January 2024. The proceeds from the sales of this story are donated to the ongoing rebuild of Lahaina. To date, Lori has made donations supporting the Lahaina community and its children through The Hawaii Community Foundation and Lahaina schools. Her complete project is full of Lahaina and local flavor. Its pages highlight Lahaina Harbor, Front Street, Lahainaʻs Banyan Tree, and more. Mo`o and Koholā comes with three original songs and a website of resources for families and teachers. Lori is extremely thankful to her enthusiastic, talented team which helped bring her project to life. She feels blessed to have worked with Nicki Barsamian who beautifully illustrated her story and helped guide her through the self-publication process. The musicality of Kala`e Camarillo who performed her songs and made them so special was surely a treat for the music lover she is! Visit Loriʻs website at www.kumulori.com for more information on this project and a purchasing link.
