Brenton has entertained audiences on Maui for over 20 years and brings high-energy mischief with his magic. It’s a good time for all ages! A recent OpenTable review says, “Came here tonight to see a Magic Show featuring Brenton Keith and His Bag of Tricks. Although it’s off the beaten path, it’s a very good experience. Malama Hamakua Maui invites the community on Saturday, September 28th, from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM for a special “Kokua Saturday” planting event. The event will take place at the Hamakualoa Open Space Preserve, located off of Hahana Road. For those unfamiliar with the area, meeting is at the Haiku Community Center at 8:35 AM to sign waivers and caravan to the site.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome! Please come prepared for planting, rain and or sun, and feel free to bring your own tools if you have them. Tools and gloves will be provided, along with a water refill station and a light lunch donated by Flatbread Paia. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, WSL One Ocean, Nuestro Futuro Foundation, the County of Maui, and Kaulunani Urban & Community Forestry Program. The goal is to plant 600 native plants in the area.

This community-driven event is a part of Malama Hamakua Maui’s ongoing efforts to restore the Hamakualoa Open Space Preserve to its native forest state. Your participation helps to preserve and protect this precious land for future generations.

Kenny Gieser is a skilled and versatile guitarist known for his long-standing presence in the Maui music scene, particularly as a member of the Mick Fleetwood Island Rumors Band and The House Shakers, the house band at Fleetwood’s on Front Street. For over 12 years, Kenny’s melodic guitar work was a key feature of the live performances at Fleetwood’s, where he contributed to creating an unforgettable atmosphere of both acoustic and electric soulful grooves. Lenny Castellanos is a Grammy-nominated bass player and vocalist with over 40 years of experience performing on Maui. For 12 years, he played lead vocals and bass for “The Houseshakers” – House band at Fleetwood’s On Front Street, a beloved venue lost in the Lahaina fires of 2023. His long-standing presence in the Maui music scene has made him a respected and well-known musician in the community.

Mo’o and Koholā by Lori Abreu

Mo`o and Koholā: A Childrenʻs Book full of Aloha and Purpose!
Lori Abreu, born and raised on Maui, is passionate about serving the children and families of her island home. It was the outpouring of aloha and compassion she witnessed working alongside volunteers in our Maui community in the wake of the devastating wildfires that motivated her to realize her long-time dream of publishing her first children’s book, Mo`o and Koholā, which was introduced to our Maui community in January 2024. The proceeds from the sales of this story are donated to the ongoing rebuild of Lahaina. To date, Lori has made donations supporting the Lahaina community and its children through The Hawaii Community Foundation and Lahaina schools. Her complete project is full of Lahaina and local flavor. Its pages highlight Lahaina Harbor, Front Street, Lahainaʻs Banyan Tree, and more. Mo`o and Koholā comes with three original songs and a website of resources for families and teachers. Lori is extremely thankful to her enthusiastic, talented team which helped bring her project to life. She feels blessed to have worked with Nicki Barsamian who beautifully illustrated her story and helped guide her through the self-publication process. The musicality of Kala`e Camarillo who performed her songs and made them so special was surely a treat for the music lover she is!
